HSE Assurance and Improvements Manager (NSW)

As HSE Assurance & Improvements Manager, you will join a large team and will support the GM of HSE with their new strategic model and operating plan. Your new organisation has entered an exciting phase of growth and transformation. Their core activities include major asset ownership and management, and construction and maintenance of infrastructure. They are a forward-looking and innovative business with a vision to build sustainable success into all facets of their business both internally for their staff and externally for their customers.

In this role, you will develop and deliver the assurance programme leading a large team of auditors and investigators. You will develop operational plans and business cases, as well as managing key strategic initiatives to mitigate identified trends. In addition, you will coordinate all reporting, including for the risk committee and management reporting, and oversee the closure of corrective actions. You will work closely with the HSE leadership team on the development of a behavioural safety culture from a compliance based approach.

Critical success factors and responsibilities include:
• Strong technical skills in audit and investigations with the ability to apply critical analysis, problem solving and reporting skills to compliance and assurance reporting
• Proven track record of developing a team and leading it through a cultural change programme
• The ability to bring fresh insights and ideas, and to create innovative strategies
• A pragmatic approach to balance compliance and the commercial needs of the business, and the ability to align HSE to the corporate plan

In addition to your leadership skills and strategic thinking, you will have:
• Team management experience leading a Safety or Environment assurance programme within a complex, matrix environment with field-based employees
• Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills with high numeracy and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively consult with stakeholders and influence from the top down
• Tertiary qualifications in Safety or a related discipline
• ICAM and lead auditor qualifications, and the Workcover NSW Construction Induction certificate desirable
