Internationally recognized threat assessment experts Stephen D. Hart, PhD and P. Randall Kropp, PhD will lead you through the workshop.

Day 1 – October 25, 2010
Principles of Violence Risk (Threat) Assessment and Management
Facilitator: S.D. Hart
- Learn essential knowledge and skills to conduct violence risk assessments and develop management plans.
- Apply general principles to specific types of violence in specific settings.
- Discuss general risk management principles.
- Discuss the association between violence and mental disorder.
- Learn simple ways to identify and communicate about symptoms of acute mental illness and personality disorder.
Day 2 – October 26, 2010
Assessing and Managing Violence Risk

- Review the scientific and professional literature on the nature and causes of violence, with a focus on mental illness.
- Discuss risk assessment procedures.
- Learn to administer Version 2 of the Historical-Clinical-Risk management-20 (HCR-20).
Day 3 – October 27, 2010
Assessing Risk for Sexual Violence
Facilitator: S.D. Hart & P.R. Kropp
- Review the causes of sexual violence, with a focus on sexual deviation.
- Discuss risk assessment procedures.
- Learn to administer Sexual Violence Risk-20 (SVR-20) and Risk for Sexual Violence Protocol (RSVP).
Day 4 – October 28, 2010
Assessing Risk for Intimate Partner Violence
Facilitator: P.R. Kropp
- Review the literature on intimate partner violence, with a focus on personality disorder.
- Discuss risk assessment procedures.
- Learn to administer Spousal Assault Risk Assessment Guide (SARA) and Brief Spousal Assault Form for the Evaluation of Risk (B-SAFER).
Day 5 – October 29, 2010
Assessing Risk for Stalking
Facilitator: P.R. Kropp
- Review the literature on stalking, with a focus on how it differs from many other forms of violence.
- Discuss risk assessment procedures.
- Learn to administer Guidelines for Stalking Assessment and Management (SAM).

Stephen D. Hart, PhD
Stephen Hart specializes in clinical-forensic assessment in criminal and civil settings, especially in the assessment of violence risk and the assessment of psychopathic personality disorder. He is a Professor of Psychology and a Member of the Mental Health, Law, and Policy Institute at Simon Fraser University in Canada, and a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Bergen in Norway. more » |
